A Special Story About A Special Portrait
I received Barbs email one evening and she was wanting to order a portrait. I noticed in her mail she sounded kind of desperate to get the painting done, at least that's the way it sounded to me.
I emailed her back with my usual instructions on how and what to do about getting the painting started. In her next email she sent me the photo and she opened up a little more about her situation and why she wanted it done. She told me her husband had passed away and that he was really (in my words) the mighty hand that steers the wheel of their everyday life. She depended on him.
Now Barb has a son. When her husband was living they spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital
because he is a special needs child. I know how that can be from my own experience with my son, and you can worry yourself to death in a situation like that, believe me. But when possible they tried to make their days as normal as they could. They also took photos, Barb told me her husband always took the photos and she didn't have many photos of the whole family together. She told me she had a one of her and her husband and another one of her son and she was wondering if I could put them all together. I told her I would mess around with the photos in a photo editing program I have on my computer and see what I could come up with. I then told her I would send her a photo back of what I came up with so she could look at it before it was painted. She liked it.
You know, by this time I had already made up my mind that she was going to get this portrait regardless if she could afford it or not. This was getting to my heart. I was going to make it affordable for her. I also noticed that when I emailed her it took her some time to get back to me. That was because she works all the time . You know how hard it is to make a living these days, and she's raising a son too. Even when UPS tried to deliver the portrait to her house she was never at home.
Yes you guessed it, at work. They tried three times and finally she had to make special arrangements to pick it up.
It takes a while to get a portrait painted so I emailed her every once in a while to let her know that everything is under way and to just be patient. Barb has the patience of Jobe and I don't know if I spelled Jobe right but I heard my Mother describe people that way so I thought it would be a nice way to describe Barb. Yes, she has the patience of Jobe. It really takes patience to get through life. My Mother also said if you just be calm and wait, things will come to you and it'll save you a lot of hunt'n.
So, Barb waited. It takes a little time to paint a three figure portrait especially the size she ordered.
She also wanted it stretched and framed too because she said she doesn't have much spare time to hunt for a framer. Finally the the portrait was done. I sent her a photo of the finished portrait. She emailed me back and in her own words" I love it". I could go on and on about what she said about this portrait but I'm not trying to make Portrait Masters shine here, this is all about Barb, and to narrow this story down, I think she put the family together again even if its just on canvas. And,... it's hanging on her wall for her to gaze at anytime she wants to.
I don't want to take any credit for what has taken place here, she put this whole thing together. Why she chose us I don't know. I guess we just pulled up on the search engines and got her attention.
Any good portrait painter could have done this. But I'm glad she chose us and our artists to put them together again. I don't know what else to say about Barb but that she is a wonderful, hard working lady with a wonderful son, and a wonderful husband and father who is alive in their hearts, and he'll always be there.
